Agricultural Alternatives: Dairy-Beef ProductionHeifers are the foundation of any dairy enterprise. Farmers can improve their herds by replacing culled cows with wellfed, healthy, genetically superior 2-year-old heifers. In most herds, dairy farmers replace 25 to 30 percent of the herd each year. These replacements represent a significant financial investment. Dairy heifer production in the Northeast and the Midwest has typically been the responsibility of dairy farmers. However, milk producers in other parts of the country often buy bred replacement heifers or contract their own heifers out to other growers.

Análisis de Tamaño de Partícula (Spanish Version of Particle Size Manual and Spreadsheet)This revised instruction manual includes information about particle size, instructions for the New Particle Separator, facts for particle size effects on the dairy cow, a section outlining recommended fiber intakes, data sheets for forage and TMR particle size analysis, and sample output from the new Particle Size spreadsheet. Why do the particle size calculations and graphing by hand? We've developed a spreadsheet that will do it for you. Simply enter the weight of forage left on each sieve. The percent remaining on each sieve, the cummulative percentage undersized, and a graph will be generated automatically.
